Letter from Mr. Teddy Arcilla

Below is an email I received from Mr. Teddy Arcilla requesting me to publish this announcement.

The Calolbon (San Andres) Civic Association was founded in 1926 as an alliance of Manila-based residents of San Andres, Catanduanes.

Its main objectives is to foster camaraderie and unity among Calolobonganons and propagate the devotion to our Patron Saint, San Andres and Nuestra Senora de Dolores of Batong Paloway.

A monthly novena and thanksgiving mass is being organized every last Sunday for nine consecutive months (starting in March) and will end on November in time for the town fiesta celebration.

As part of its socio-civic projects, the San Andres Civic Association conducts medical missions and assists in providing scholarship of poor but deserving students from San Andres.

We have so many activities in line with the upcoming San Andres Fiesta celebrations here on November 23 (for Manila-based residents ng Calolbon). It will be held at the Escoda Hall inside Balara Complex Diliman QC. With free use of the swimming pool from 9:00 a.m. to 5;00 p.m.

After the "kahapunon" (final novena), the Thanksgiving Mass will follow at 11:00 p.m.A bicolano "iribit-ibit" (salu-salo) will then follow with "sayawan at kantahan".

We always celebrate our fiesta here in Manila a week ahead para maka-paribod ang ibang mga members sa banwa on the day of the actual fiesta on November 30 (it's a Sunday and December 1st is already declared as s special non-working holiday).

We will also have our annual Grand Marian Procession this December 7 (every first Sunday of December). This is our culminating activity every year and this is organized by the Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion headed by Don Ado Escudero and Mrs. Imelda Cojuangco.

This Grand Marian Procession is participated by more than a hundred miraculous Marian images from different parish churches all over the country.

This solemn tradition started during the 17th century and as Patron Saint of Manila, the honor is bestowed upon the antique image of San Andres as the very first carroza to start the procession from Manila Cathedral and around the historic walls of Intramuros.

For now, I am forwarding to you the guidelines for the upcoming "Kalbaryo 2009" and for the first time, this unique and solemn tradition will be a contest during Holy Week.

This was recently approved by Gov. Boboy Cua and his office will should the corresponding cash prizes.

I will forward full details of all the above events as soon as I have compiled all other information.

Thanks a lot for your kind help and assistance in our activities.

Dios Mabalos and more power!

Sincerely,

Teddy
